Holiday Time With Your Implants!

You just got dental implants. You are extremely excited that you can finally stop worrying about your tooth loss and open spaces in your smile (and what that can mean over the holidays). However, you may also feel that you’re presented now with a new set of concerns. How are you going to feel about eating the feast that you’ve been dreaming of indulging in with your newly completed smile? Should you just dig in? You don’t have to worry about a thing!

Your Implants Are Solid

Your dental implants are anchored way down into your jawbone. This means that you are free to eat your holiday meal as though your smile is composed solely of your natural teeth. Of course, this also means exactly what it sounds like: You can eat just about anything your heart desires but there’s still a chance of damaging your oral health if you eat something too hard, sticky, crunchy, chewy, etc. Make the same smart choices you would make for natural tissue and all will be well.

Care Is Still Easy

You know that brushing your smile and flossing is still what’s expected of you now that you have dental implants in place. However, you may wonder if you should be doing something in particular over the holidays or at the table. We encourage you to bring the following with you (or keep them on hand at home) when you eat, so you don’t feel concerned:

  • Keep floss with you, so you can remove food from between teeth and around implants
  • If you use superfloss or any type of accessory for flossing, keep that with you, as well
  • Drink water while you’re eating, so you can help rinse food particles free as you eat
  • Feel free to brush about a half hour after your meal, if you want your smile to feel its best
